Discovering Who God Made You to Be!

But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it… From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. – Ephesians 4:7, 16

In August, we began a sermon series at Seibert entitled “As Each Part Does Its Work”, learning how to discover our God-given gifts, find our place in the body, and serve.  As a believer, we need to understand that God made us UNIQUE and SPECIAL – that we are loved, valued and accepted by Him.  Because of His love, God has graced us with distinctive gifts, strengths and abilities – things that He wants us to use to build His kingdom.  When we seek to be the person GOD CREATED US TO BE, we become fruitful and effective in fulfilling His plans for our lives.  Ministry becomes satisfying and exciting!  However, too often we look at other people and try to be like them and imitate their gifts.  The result?  Disappointment, frustration and striving.  God made us an original, but we go astray when we end up trying to be a copy of someone else.

When you discover who GOD MADE YOU TO BE and become comfortable being you, God’s grace begins to flow in your life!  You begin to be fruitful in using your gifts and finding your niche in the kingdom of God.  When you use your gifts (graces), not only does the church grow, but YOU GROW.  Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”  Sowing is the key to growing.  God has given you special gifts – discover them and put them to work and you will embark on a lifelong and fulfilling journey of seeing God work through you!

Blessings, Pastor Brent & Lisa Martin

What We Believe

About the Bible

The Bible is the inspired word of God and therefore our final authority for faith and Christian living.

About Our World

That the universe is the purposeful creation of a personal, loving, almighty God.  That all human beings are made in the image of the Creator and are of infinite worth.  That our world is under the sway of sin as a result of human rebellion against God, so that suffering, death and separation from God are the experience of humankind.  That without the intervention of God’s grace, this will be the eternal state of all persons.

About God

That God is infinite and the Creator of all things, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three (the Trinity) are one in essence but distinct in person.  God the Father is the first person of the Trinity and the source of all that God is and does.  He is the Sovereign of all.

About Jesus Christ

That Jesus Christ is the incarnate Son of God, and through His virgin birth, sinless life, sacrificial death on the Cross, and glorious resurrection and ascension, graciously offers new life to all who receive Him as Lord by faith.   He will return to this world, bring and end to history as we know it, inaugurate the final judgment, and welcome believers into His eternal kingdom.

About the Holy Spirit

That the Holy Spirit, indwelling believers, gives them a desire and an ability to follow biblical standards of conduct in their personal lives and society.

About the Christian Life

That the follower of Christ is to live out his faith in the community of believers demonstrating a life of worship, communion, prayer and service to others.  That he should love God with his entire heart, soul, mind and strength, and reflect that devotion in both the church and society.

Where we get the name Seibert

Evangelical Congregational Church

Seibert:  Named for John Seybert (1791-1860), an early leader in our denomination who was passionate about telling others of the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.

Evangelical:  Refers to our core belief that people can experience a restored relationship with God only through faith in Jesus Christ.

Congregational:  Though part of a world-wide denomination of churches and ministries, each church makes most of its own decisions.
